What is Needed
The school provides boarding for a number of students and is in need of a regular supply of mattresses, bed linens, and blankets. There is also a continuous need for kitchen-related items such as crockery and cutlery, food, and sanitary products. Updates to the computer center will soon be needed, as the computers and equipment are over a decade old.
Grootberg Primary School
Since 2012, the Conservation Travel Foundation has supported the Grootberg Primary School, a small, rural school in the Erwee Village in the Khoadi Hoas Conservancy in Namibia. The Grootberg Primary School was developed to provide advanced education for children from this region who demonstrate high academic ability.
For the past decade, Ultimate Safaris’, the Conservation Travel Foundation, and private donors and guests of the Grootberg Lodge on the Khoadi Hoas Conservancy have funded costs for the school and annual bursaries - similar to a scholarship in the US - for eligible students.
The Issue
The Conservation Travel Foundation has supported the school with funds donated by Ultimate Safaris guests to pay a percentage of the student’s tuition and operating costs. Yet, more funds are required for the school to continue to provide quality education, housing, and food for the students.
The Grootberg Primary School is raising $33,000 to provide the following for the students and school operations:
$10,000 to replace old and used mattresses and provide bed linens and blankets.
$15,000 to upgrade equipment and ensure the school is supplied with the equipment to host academic lessons.
$3,000 to replenish and replace crockery and cutlery for meals made for the boarding students.
$5,000 to purchase additional food supplements and sanitary products to improve and sustain the health of the scholars.
