Nepal Sherpa homestay trek suspension bridge trailDreaming of trekking in the Himalayas off the beaten path, and deep into the world of the Sherpa people? This adventure trek to the village of Sibuje is for you. The journey begins just after you arrive by flying into the small mountain airport of Phaplu in the Solo Khumbu region where Karma Sherpa (or one of his relatives) from Sibuje will meet you and guide you on the trek to their home. Along the route, you will stop at a Buddhist monastery to participate in a meditation class. Once in Sibuje, you will stay in the homes of Karma's family members and learn about their culture, religion and food. This is a peaceful, slow-paced opportunity to stay in a traditional village and give back. A portion of your fees will go to help fund a project to bring electricity to the community.

You will be met at the airport and brought to the your hotel in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Get checked in and rested.

Today after breakfast it’s time to explore the city, visiting Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Patan.

The Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest Buddhist stupas, both in Nepal and in the world. Practitioners of Buddhism come from all over the world to perform puja here and to pray for wealth and prosperity. Pashupatinath is the most holy Hindu temple and sits on the banks of the Bagmati River. Hindus from all over the world pilgrimage here to worship and to commit the ashes of loved ones into the river from one of the many funeral pyres that line the temple walls. Patan is a lovely area where you can visit Durbar Square and enjoy all the different types of art and architecture.



Kathmandu - Phaplu - Ringmu

Today we will wake early in order to be ready for our flight to Phaplu. The best weather tends to be in the morning, so we will try to fly before 9am. Bring water, snacks, and a book to the airport. If flights are delayed we may need to wait several hours before boarding. Our flight is short (about 25 minutes) but turbulence is common. After arriving we will meet our porters and start the trek from Phaplu to Ringmu. Overnight in a teahouse.
Beginning Elevation: 8923 ft (2720 m

Ringmu - Nunthala

Today is a challenging one, as you trek to Nunthala. This will not be a long day, but there will be a good amount of elevation gain. Along the trek you will have views of Kantega, Thamserku and on a clear day Mt. Everest. The route passes through many traditional Sherpa villages. Overnight in a teahouse.
You will go up and over a pass and end roughly the same elevation you start. Nunthala Elevation: 7217 ft (2200 m), Elevation Gain: 1400 ft (400 m),
Trekking: 5 hours
Trekking time: 5 hours



Nunthala - Kharikola

Today you will start your trek descending steeply from Nunthala through the Dudh Kosi Valley, ending at Kharikola. Along today's route you will have a chance to see langur monkeys, cross a suspension bridge strewn with prayer flags, and pass by engraved mani stones. at Khrikola enjoy the market and the lively vibe of this trading town.
Kharikhola Elevation: 7217 ft (2200 m), Elevation Loss: 1476 ft (450 m), Trekking time: 7 hrs



Kharikola - Sibuje

Today you will arrive in Sibuje village, which is located along a narrow ridge jutting out into the Dudh Kosi Valley. Its terraced fields afford spectacular views of the Numbur Himal and adjacent peaks. Sibuje is the home to Karma Sherpa, your guide and you will be welcomed with the famous Sherpa hospitality. Overnight in Sibuje homestay.
Sibuje Elevation: 9186 ft (2800 m), Elevation Gain: 2624 ft (800 m), Trekking: 6 hours

Trekking time: 5 hours




Today you will visit the local school, monastery, and water-powered grist mill used for grinding buckwheat into flour. You will have the unique opportunity to visit the homes of many villagers on this day where you can ask questions and partake in the daily life of the village. Enjoy Tibetan salt tea and snacks with local people during the discussions. Sleep another night in Sibuje.



Sibuje - Pangome

After breakfast you will have a goodbye ceremony of dancing and scarves to bless you on your journey back. The trek from Sibuje to Pangome is along a beautiful valley filled with rhododendron trees and incredible views. Pangome village is set in an idyllic location with Mera Peak, Numbur Himla and Mt Karylung as the back drop. Today there is the opportunity to visit with the lama of the monastery, who is the uncle of Karma Sherpa. Overnight at the monastery with an option to participate in meditation or puja.
Pangome Elevation: 9514 ft (2900 m), Elevation Gain: 1150 ft (350 m), Trekking: 3 hours



Pangome - Poyan

After a hearty traditional Sherpa breakfast of tsampa (buckwheat flour and porridge-like oatmeal) the most difficult day of trekking begins, progressing over a pass with incredible views of 6,000 meter peaks along the horizon. Overnight at teahouse.
Poyan Elevation: 9186 ft (2800 m) Elevation Gain: 3280 ft (1000 m), Trekking 7-8 hours


DAY 10

Poyan - Lukla

Today is the final trekking day with arrival into Lukla made famous for being the arrival point for trekkers heading to Mt Everest. Overnight at a lodge in Lukla and prepare for your return flight to Kathmandu the next day.
Lukla Elevation: 9350 ft (2850 m) Elevation Gain: 1804 ft (550 m), Trekking 5 hours


DAY 11

Lukla - Kathmandu

Today is an early morning flight to Kathmandu (flight time 30 min). This landing strip is known as one of the most exciting places to fly in and out of in the world. Weather in Lukla can be unpredictable so be prepared for delays from hours to sometimes days. After arrival in Kathmandu you will be transferred to your hotel. There will be a celebration dinner with your guide at a traditional restaurant in Thamel.


DAY 12-13

Lukla - Kathmandu (alternate days)

These days are necessary as weather delays are common for flights out of Lukla and can sometimes result in cancelled flights for a day or two. To ensure you don’t miss your international connection, please plan for these two extra days. If flights are cancelled overnight accommodations will be provided. Meals will not be provided so please budget for $35 a day for food if delayed.


DAY 14


This morning after breakfast enjoy your last afternoon in Kathmandu, doing any last minute shopping. You will be taken to the airport for your flight home.
